An unexpected visit from a rising performer

As a movie reviewer, I haven’t been particularly kind to Sherdil. A couple of months ago, I live-tweeted a series of facts - not opinions - about Sherdil, drawing focus towards the script’s casual misogyny and obvious political signalling.

Among the things that I did like about the film, was the appearance of Abiola Atobatele who is one of our favorite regulars at Cafe Sol. The other was Ibrahim Alvi’s charming screen presence.

Yesterday, Ibrahim Alvi showed up at Cafe Sol, and we were all ecstatic to see him.

Ibrahim is a humble young man whose stardom I wouldn’t have guessed if it wasn’t for Talha, our new trainee, tapping me excitedly on the shoulder and whispering into my ear. Talha darted off into iO to alert the rest of our regulars about Ibrahim’s arrival, many of whom rushed over to see him.

The performer, and his equally handsome buddy, enjoyed a friendly game of Jenga with the side of white chocolate chai. It wasn’t long before we hounded these poor fellows for a picture (what a terrible day to run out of Polaroid film for our picture wall!) and they politely went along.

It was great having you guys here! We hope to see you around more often!
